A demonstration speech is an educational or promotional presentation that explains a process, activity or product. It walks the audience through the keys points so that, after the presentation, they can repeat the process or activity or know how to use the product.
In the context of this series, an entertaining speech is one whose sole purpose is to have the audience enjoy the presentation. The purpose of an entertaining speech is not to educate, inform or inspire … it is to make the audience smile, relax, enjoy and maybe even laugh their heads off.
The purpose of a motivational speech is to encourage personal or professional growth in the audience. It is very similar to the inspirational speech (which I will talk about later in this series) but has a slightly different intent.
When you conduct a training session, you are stepping into the role of educator. You are teaching your audience how to do something that you know how to do. In most cases, this will be business-oriented … but I’ve also trained people on how to belly dance!
A keynote address is an opening presentation (usually) for an event. More often than not it is inspirational. Regardless, it sets the mood and tone for the event.
