Life Lessons Learned

When I published my first book, Searching for Success, it marked the completion of a personal milestone. For too many years, I had created mental obstacles that stopped me from realizing my dream of authoring a book. This powerful experience was life-changing. Shortly after publication, I was asked to present my thoughts on the process of completing this project to a local business group. As I began to recall events, I identified seven lessons I had learned. The more I thought about them, the more I saw how they might apply to anyone in their own personal quest for success. The reflection process is a practice everyone should undertake. To help, why not examine your personal performance in your career and in your personal undertakings against the seven points below? The use of questions is an excellent method to gauge performance and each point has challenging questions for your consideration.

The beauty of life is that no matter where we find ourselves at any given moment, we always have the choice to move in a different direction and re-position ourselves. By conducting a thorough examination of our past activities, readjusting our tactics and implementing the necessary changes to improve our results, we can reach the milestones of our life. It’s never too late to start over. But before we can successfully begin to move towards our destination of choice, we must build a self-awareness of our weaknesses-the lid on our success jar that stops our progress.

We all bring strength to the table of opportunity. Likewise, we all have weaknesses that, if not corrected, will diminish our ability to maximize and capture the opportunities of life. Successful people focus and use their strengths, and seek support to shore up their weaknesses. They surround themselves with people who help them overcome their weaknesses. This is a win-win partnership.

Billy ArcementBy Featured Speaker Billy Arcement

With the continuously surfacing scandals in Corporate America, the idea that any form of ethics exists in business is suspect. We are also seeing similar situations within the ranks of government and religious leaders. And, the lack of ethics is not confined to America. It’s global!

By definition, ethics reflect the type of morally permissible standards of conduct a group places upon themselves. It is basically a contract with the society an entity serves. Greed, the desire for power, and blind ambition are some of the factors that have all but eliminated ethical standards. We have lost our conscience. It seems that anything one can get away with to reach their defined pinnacle of success is becoming more and more acceptable.
