Al Rubeling is currently on the faculty at the University of Maryland College Park School of Architecture as a Lecturer having taught the “Professional Practice” course, and currently, the “Careers of Architecture” course.
As an architect and businessman, Al believes in a strong sense of professional and personal ethics to maintain his individual reputation as well as the reputation of his firm. As always, Al takes a professional and progressive approach to the business of architecture. With this approach, Rubeling & Associates continues to enjoy dramatic growth and has earned a reputation for accuracy, creativity, and honesty.
A native of Baltimore County, Maryland, he attended Essex Community College and, in 1977, graduated from the University of Maryland School of Architecture. After a five-year tenure with Nes, Campbell & Partners, he formed his own architectural firm in 1981.
Over the years, Al was appointed to two terms of the Maryland State Board of Architects and the Baltimore County Architectural Review Board. He is past president of the Essex Community College Foundation, and past member of the Leadership Baltimore County and Baltimore Foundation of Architecture. Al has also chaired the Architecture Committee for the Baltimore/Richard Bloch Cancer Survivors Park in Towson, and served on the Board for The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland.
Al has served as president of the Baltimore and Maryland Chapters of the American Institute of Architects. In 1993, the AIA elevated him to one of its highest honors in the College of Fellows. He has served on the National Board of Directors and as a Trustee of the National AIA Trust. He is the 2007 recipient of The Leslie N. Boney Spirit of Fellowship Award.
Al’s book, How to Start and Operate Your Own Design Firm, was published in 1994 and 2007.
